The International Centre for Guidance Studies is a specialist research centre with interests in career and career guidance
iCeGS has knowledge and experience in a diverse range of activities including: evaluation of learning or guidance programmes, comprehensive literature reviews, impact assessments and strategic projects that inform the development of national services. Much of iCeGS' work is applied research to support the delivery and improvement of services. iCeGS also undertakes blue skies research that examines the theoretical and conceptual basis of career and career guidance. The Centre works closely with a range of clients and funders to undertake research that meets their organisational or programme needs. iCeGS has extensive experience of responding to tenders and working to briefs as well as an ability to generate creative research projects that anticipate emerging needs. iCeGS conducts its research to high ethical standards, we adhere to the University of Derby Policy and Code of Practice on Research Ethics and Jo Hutchinson is Chair of the University Research Ethics Committee.
iCeGS has particularly strong interests in the following areas:
- Guidance as a profession
- Career learning and careers work with young people
- The relationship between guidance and other partner professions
- The role of values in career decision making and careers work
- Using technology in guidance
- Careers work in higher education
- Careers work with adults
