The Careers Education & Guidance Summit 2013
22 May 2013
iCeGS visiting Professor Tony Watts will be speaking at the Careers Education & Guidance Summit 2013: Delivering Excellence in Schools & Colleges. The event will be held in Westminster, Central London Thursday, 24th October, 10.30am - 4.00pm (including networking lunch).
The Context
From this September all schools and colleges will be required to provide independent careers guidance throughout years 8 to post-16. Therefore, this is a critical time for schools and colleges working with CEG providers to design and deliver provision which will ensure that they are meeting their new statutory duty. With government policy for CEG under severe scrutiny and the government response to the Ofsted study due shortly, this conference will provide a unique and timely opportunity for delegates to consider the implications for their own setting.
Other confirmed to Speak include:
- Karen Adriaanse, Lead Inspector for Careers Guidance, Ofsted
- Karen O'Donoghue, President, Career Development Institute
- Dame Ruth Silver DBE, Chair, Learning and Skills Improvement Service
- Paul Chubb, Executive Director, Careers England.
Issues:
This important event will provide an opportunity for schools, colleges, work-based learning providers, employers, local authorities and providers of careers education and guidance to come together to examine latest government thinking and understand what positive steps can be taken to improve CEG for all young people. Furthermore, this Summit will be one of the first opportunities to hear directly from Ofsted, following the publication of their thematic study of careers education and guidance in England. Engaging with the panel of experts, key issues to be addressed at this Policy & Practice Briefing will include:
- Examining the findings and recommendations of the Ofsted report
- The government's response: an analysis of the national policy context
- Delivering high quality CEG for all students - the extension of the statutory duty
- The challenge of delivering "independent" advice and guidance: selecting the right providers
- Working in partnership with national and local providers
- Quality assurance of Careers Guidance providers
- Monitoring delivery: what is the "test of sufficiency" in meeting the statutory duty?
- Resourcing and funding the delivery of CEG
- Managing CEG in schools & colleges: curriculum content and quality assurance
- Effective engagement of employers in CEG
- CEG as a tool to support social mobility and raise aspiration
- The local authority role: meeting the needs of vulnerable groups & delivering RPA
- Case studies of effective practice in schools and colleges
- Next steps for CEIAG in England
The morning sessions will examine the national policy context, with contributions from Ofsed and key national organisations and professional bodies. The afternoon sessions, and exhibition, will be highly interactive with a real focus on the question "how to make it work". You will hear examples of effective practice, with lessons directly applicable to your own setting.
