The Programme
There has been a revolution in career guidance in the last decade or so. Information resources have proliferated, e-devices are commonplace and used by a large percentage of the UK population, they are becoming more sophisticated. A new language is fast developing, not only are the job titles of some guidance practitioners changing but so are the ways in which they work: blogging and twittering are becoming commonplace, googling is a long established habit of the careers worker.Jim Sampson is an international expert from the University of Florida with a strong interest in guidance and new technology. Tristram Hooley is a specialist in social networking in education and guidance. Together they will illuminate the current trends in guidance and new technology and what they trends might mean for guidance practice. The programme will include the following topics:
- The "Understanding, Acting, and Coping Model" for using the Internet
- Counselling strategies for helping young people and adults use information on the Internet
- Ethical use of the Internet to deliver career resources and services
- Making sense of the Web and social networking
- Making effective use of social networking in providing career resources and services
- Using the social web: blogging, twittering and social networking
