The replacement of large two diesel pool cars with Hybrids will result in a reduction of around 7000kg of Carbon Dioxide emissions each year

Hybrid cars added to our pool car fleet

We have a fleet of pool cars that are available for our employees to use for business travel.

This allows employees to travel to work by alternatives to the car and still be able to undertake essential trips during the day.

Now the scheme has become even greener, with the addition of 2 petrol electric Hybrid Cars.

Emissions Reduction

Two Honda Civic IMA hybrids have been introduced, replacing two Volvo V70 diesels. The Honda emits 109g/km of Carbon Dioxide, compared to the 199g/km of the Volvo.

Over a year this equates to 3,500kg of carbon dioxide per car.

The engine switches off in slow or stationery traffic, where the car uses electric power, minimising pollution. The battery is charged by the engine and through the brakes.

Spin-off benefits

The Honda's cost slightly less than the cars they replace. In addition Fuel costs are reduced by almost 50% and the road fund licence is only £10 a year, a saving of £235! The Hondas are also able to travel for free in the London Congestion Charge Zone.

It is also hoped that by giving staff a chance to use these vehicles and see how effective they are, it may have a 'green' influence on their future vehicle purchases.

If this scheme proves a success, then we will look to increase the number of hybrids in use as pool cars.
