Why English at Derby
Here at Derby we offer intellectually stimulating, vibrant English courses. As well as the traditional lectures, seminars and tutorials, you can expect to visit local and national literary sites. Visit our trips and events page to see where we have been.
If you don't want to specialise in one area, or want a mix of skills, a joint honours degree could be for you. You can choose to study English with one or two other subjects; there are lots to choose from including History, Creative Writing and American Studies.

You'll study modules dealing with a variety of subjects ranging from the representation of Cyborgs in Postmodernism, to Jane Austen, Monica Ali, filmed texts, John Donne and Jean Paul Sartre.
Cutting edge assessment
Because we think it's important for you to be prepared for the world of work, you'll be assessed by a wide range of techniques - from traditional coursework essays and exams to portfolios, presentations and interactive e-learning tasks. Our third year e-module, Shakespeare Today, has been highly commended by internal and external bodies.
