Course Aims

After completing this course you will:

  • Gain an understanding of the broader issues of Diversity and Equal Opportunities.
  • See how Equality & Diversity can help the University to develop strong relationships and positive behaviours, to help us achieve our overall goals.
  • Understand your rights and responsibilities as a member of staff at the University.
  • Become more familiar with Equal Opportunities legislation.

Course content

The course is made up of the following modules:

  • Quiz: How much do you already know?
  • Legislation
  • Types of discrimination
  • Positive action, positive discrimination and GOR
  • The Public Sector Equality Duty
  • Age and ageism
  • Disability and reasonable adjustments
  • Gender Reassignment
  • Pregnancy and maternity
  • Race
  • Religion and Belief
  • Sex - including pay discrimination
  • Marriage and civil partnership
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Harassment and Bullying
  • Stereotyping and prejudice
  • Consequenses of getting it wrong
  • Your role as a member of staff

There are two interim quizzes within the course and a final end of course quiz.
