Recruitment and Selection

Recruitment and Selection

We aim to ensure that all our recruitment and selection processes are free from bias or discrimination. Our recruitment and selection policy states:

"The University aims to recruit the person who is most suited to the job from all applications received. Recruitment will be based on the applicant's abilities and individual merit as measured against the criteria for the job. The University is committed to providing equality of opportunity within the recruitment and selection process."

We are working towards a situation where recruitment and selection training has been undertaken by all our recruiting managers, this includes equality and diversity awareness.

Equality Data Monitoring

As part of the recruitment process you will be asked to supply us with equality monitoring data attached to the application form, although there is no obligation for the candidate to do so. This data is kept separately from the application form and cannot be seen by those undertaking the short-listing or interviewing.

Why do we ask you to provide this information?

F urther explanation can be found in a useful booklet provided by Stonewall entitled "What's it got to do with you?"

This data is only used by the HR department to monitor the effectiveness of our services and to monitor which groups of people are/are not attracted to jobs at the University.

You can view the latest University staff and student demographics on our publishing equality information web site.
