The Role of the Committee Member

The role of the committee member, in conjunction with the other members, is to:

  • Discuss and make recommendations relating to the strategic direction the University needs to take in relation to equality and diversity issues
  • Formulate strategic solutions to issues relating to equality and diversity where they affect staff and/or students of the University.
  • Bring to the group issues that are affecting staff or students within your Faculty or Department or sub-group, after previous attempts at resolution have failed or where the situation requires a higher level decision to be made.
  • Ensure that approved strategies are taken back to the Senior Management Team in your Faculty or Department for action
  • Ensure that Equality and Diversity is a standing agenda item at every team meeting
  • Ensure the collation of Faculty/Department data required for the University's Annual Report to Council
  • Assist the E&D team to raise awareness of E&D issues across the University, including participation in the Annual Diversity Week
  • Ensure that Equality Impact Assessments are planned and executed in the Faculty/Departments
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on any draft equality documents, policies, schemes, plans etc.
