Development Framework
The importance cannot be underestimated. If we are to truly live our values it is crucial that each member of staff plays their part.
”John Coyne, Vice Chancellor
Inclusion, internationalisation and the cause of the customer are at the heart of our core strategy. Research has shown that clear benefits of business excellence can be achieved where the organisation embraces diversity and has a diverse workforce. This in turn can help to attract a more diverse student base as students who feel safe, comfortable and satisfied by their experiences at the University are more likely to achieve better results and be more employable. The key to ensuring student engagement is to ensure we have fully trained and engaged staff. Ensuring we have engaged, happy and motivated employees helps to build pride and commitment in the University, behaviour that discriminates on any grounds is inconsistent with our core values is unacceptable.
Equality & Diversity Development
To help us achieve a culture of inclusivity all staff must complete the on-line Equality and Diversity in the Workplace course. All new staff must attend the central induction event which includes a session on Equality and Diversity. In addition it is mandatory for every member of staff to undertake one session of equality and diversity training per year as part of their on-going development.
This may be chosen from the Equality Development Framework or may be something that you have completed in your team or attended as part of an external training session or conference.
The sessions outlined in the Framework are divided into appropriate levels for the specific job families. The sessions cover the equality strands and protected characteristics.
More information on the dates and details of these development sessions can be found on our staff development pages on UDo under equality and diversity.
