Practice Placement Educators
Become a certified practice placement educator
We welcome practitioners who would like to become involved with practice placement education. We offer free training and accreditation whether you're new to practice placements or have previous experience.
Would you like to become an accredited Practice Placement Educator, with the College Of Occupational Therapists APPLE scheme? If you would, we offer three routes depending on your preferences and learning needs:
Programme route/two day short course
If you're new to providing practice placements, or haven't provided a placement for a while, this route is for you. Once you've completed the course, you'll provide a placement and complete a small piece of assessed work. Tutorials are available to support you in completing the assessment. We run this short course three to four times per year.
Experiential route
If you already have some experience of providing placements, but would like to become more formally accredited, this route is for you. You'll reflect on your own experiences, carry out an independent study and collect evidence. This work will be put into a small portfolio. You'll be assessed on your work, and we'll support you in all of your work.
Masters level modules
If you would like to study at masters level we offer practice placement education modules. This is free of charge if you offer a placement to a one of our occupational therapy students. Once you've completed the modules you'll gain an APPLE/COT accreditation. You'll also gain credits that can be used towards gaining our MSc in Occupational Therapy. Ongoing training and support
We provide ongoing training and support to all our practice placement educators. When you provide a placement you'll be given support from a placement tutor. We'll also invite you to placement training events at the University. If you can't attend these, we can provide training events in your workplace.
