"The main reason I took the course was that I wanted a career within health care that offered variety and viewed people holistically.
I visited Derby University before my course started and it had a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere and I thoroughly enjoyed studying here. The lecturers were approachable and supportive and came from a range of clinical backgrounds, with a good mix of teaching styles.
Currently I am a team leader within South Yorkshire Condition Management Programme which I enjoy very much and find very rewarding. Previously I have worked in forensic psychiatry, a community mental health team, social services and intermediate care. I have worked as a permanent member of staff and worked as a locum, which provided excellent experience and freedom.
I feel Derby has helped me with my career so far by providing a sound knowledge base, excellent hands on experience through clinical placements and importantly a good network of people. I would say to anyone thinking of coming to Derby to study to just do it! I had a terrific experience and still love my job after 14 years. There is always the opportunity to try something new in Occupational Therapy."
