Compassion

Compassion is a composition created by the Creative Expressive Arts Therapies music lecturer. The piece was devised specifically for the students of the music pathway to offer them a performance experience. It was rehearsed over four weeks and used a range of reading and playing skills culminating in a successful presentation in front of peers and other lecturers. The experience of rehearsals, group co-operation, performance and the development of personal musicianship led to active reflection on the skills needed to take music into performance.

Deep Blue

Deep Blue was created by the Creative Expressive Therapies Music Pathway. Students from across the year groups worked together exploring the emotional themes of Survival, Darkness and the Abyss. They took their individual responses and using moving images, from the BBC's Deep Blue natural history series as a source, creatively worked them into an improvised piece. The experience of devising the piece allowed the students to reflect on the integration of different art forms, in this case specifically how music relates to the moving image, and to reflect on the deep connections between music and emotion.
