Mental Health and Therapeutic Practice

Degree Show 2012

Helping you to help others

Degree Show 2012

Our Degree Show's are a celebration of the work created by our final year students studying BA (Hons) Creative Expressive Therapies, and students from the Faculty of Arts, Design and Technology. View the galleries of work.

Our mental health and therapeutic practice courses are focused on helping you to help others. That may be through counselling and psychotherapy, nursing or creative methods, such as drama or art. Either way, we'll help you to develop the skills and knowledge you'll need to set you on the right path to a rewarding career.

Fantastic facilities

For Creative Expressive Therapies, we have dedicated art, dance, and music studios at our Derby Campus and a learning theatre at Derby Theatre in the city centre. Our dance students also use Déda, the Derby dance academy.

If you're studying mental health nursing, you can take advantage of our purpose built Clinical Skills Suite, which has been built to NHS specifications to replicate hospital setting. It has a hospital ward, and includes some of the most up to date clinical equipment from high tech simulation mannequins to hoist equipment. You will put your clinical and therapeutic skills to practice in our Clinical Skills Suite to prepare for working in a practice environment.

Because learning is more than attending lectures

If you're interested in mental health nursing you'll go on a variety of placements to various settings as a key part of your training. Our Creative Expressive Therapies students also go on placement to develop their understanding of the impact that creative interventions can have on wellbeing. Your placements will give you the vital skills and confidence you'll need for your new career.

Martyn Parker-Eames, programme leader for BA (Hons) Creative Expressive Therapies was voted lecturer of the year by students, so you can be confident of the standard of teaching and support you'll receive.

Helping you to prepare for your career

We've been working with current students to develop e-portfolios of work to showcase the talents of our graduate students.

Our courses open up fantastic opportunities to develop personal and professional skills, so you'll be ready for your first job when you graduate. Some of our students have gone on to train as teachers or social workers, and others work professionally as arts co-ordinators, artists, musicians or dancers in the theatre, community arts and voluntary sectors.
