Learning Beyond Registration

Learning Beyond Registration (LBR) is a vital part of developing competent, capable health service practitioners prepared to deliver a dynamic, flexible, quality, client-focused service. If you're employed by the NHS in the East Midlands then you may be eligible for fee-free access to our LBR modules and/or programmes. You'll need to supply evidence of approval from your line manager and Trust Education Lead when you apply.

About this module

You will develop your understanding of the theory (including anatomy and physiology) behind treatment protocols and analyse evidence for the effectiveness of existing practice. You'll identify the need for research and implement evidence based practice in hand therapy. You will choose whether to focus on hand injuries or conditions.

This module is available at either 20 or 40 credits. You will study by distance learning plus one week at our Kedleston Road site.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:

  1. Critically evaluate current variations in hand therapy protocols for hand Injuries and/or conditions. 
  2. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the application of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics of the upper limb.
  3. Critically analyse how medical or surgical interventions and psychological status impact on hand therpay protocals and the progress of the client during rehabilition.
  4. Identify areas of limited evidence base practice and formulate protocols for current therapy based on theory and research.
