Why local students still choose halls
Local students choose halls for the complete student experience
Catching the train or bus to university every day can be costly and time consuming.
Lots of local students are realising that living in halls can save you a small fortune on transport costs, but many say that commuting can cost more than just money. Many students felt that they would have missed out on the whole university experience if they hadn't come to halls.
"I moved into halls to get the experience of living on my own. I'm really enjoying it."
Ryan Wright, First year Graphic Design student from Spondon in Derby"I wanted the experience of living in halls and I didn't want to miss out."
Lauren Heywood, BA Photography student from Measham near Swadlincote (19 miles from Derby)"I did consider commuting but due to the nature of my course it was more convenient to be in Derby. Plus it's brilliant in halls."
Benjamin Kerridge, First year Music Technology and Production student from Swanwick (15 miles from Derby)"I could have commuted but it would have cost a bomb in petrol."
Chris Lovett, First year Sports and Exercise student from Worksop (39 miles from Derby)"I live in halls because it's easier for me to get into Uni than getting two buses."
Rosalind Harris, Popular Music and Music Technology student from Denby village (8 miles from Derby)" It was easier on a day to day basis to live in halls and I wanted to experience the whole package."
Daniel Spencer, First year Film and Video Production student from Bolsover (30 miles from Derby)"Commuting from home took such a long time and cost quite a lot so living in halls was easier. I also wanted to have the whole university experience."
