Our green achievements

DSRL-4371

We're launching the Student Switch Off campaign in September 2012, pitting halls against each other to see which hall is the most energy efficient and offering great prizes to the winners!

Hall-1704

We've set ourself long term targets to reduce our carbon footprint by 40% by 2020 and our energy consumption by 15% by 2015.

Switchon

Already in less than a year we've reduced our electricity consumption by 10.25% and our gas consumption by 2.82%.

Landfill

We've already reduced our landfill tonnage (excluding skips) by 17.6% and we now recycle around 22% of our waste.

DSRL-4371

We've introduced mixed recyclable bins in all common rooms and outside all Derby halls.

Bike

Our 2012 Moving out campaign helped us collect 204 bags and 14 boxes of food for charity.

Unibus1

We're trialling a food recycling scheme at Laverstoke Court and it's going really well.

Waster

Each hall has battery recycling, a book exchange scheme and skips for cardboard at key times.

Lonsdale-9022

We've installed save-a-flush devices in toilets at all our halls.
