Halls of residence allocations policy
How we allocate rooms in halls
Our guarantee
We guarantee accommodation in halls to students in the following categories, as long as they apply for their room, and pay the booking fee, before 31 July:
- first year undergraduate students, who have a conditional firm or unconditional firm offer
- new students from overseas
- disabled students
We will deal with all applications on a first come, first served basis.
Rooms for disabled students
We have a few rooms available for disabled students. We work with our Support and Advisory Service and Halls Policy and Welfare Manager to allocate these rooms.
You should let us know that you are disabled when you fill in your UCAS application and when you apply for your room in halls. You can use the general notes facility on our online room application system to let us know that you have a disability or illness.
Live with students at the same stage of university as you
We'll do our best to allocate you a room in a flat with other students who are at the same stage of university as you - so we'll try to put first years with first years and postgraduates with postgraduates. However, sometimes this isn't possible, especially when we receive late applications.
Rooms for returning students
Each year, we reserve a number of rooms at each hall for returning students. If you want to apply for a room at a particular hall, it's best to apply early, normally before Easter. We'll allocate rooms in line with our terms and conditions.
We (Student Living) retain the right to refuse your application if you have lived in halls before and are in debt to us, or have been subject to our disciplinary process.
Want to live in a flat with your friends?
If you want to live with a group of friends, you must apply for your rooms at the same time. You will need to let us know who you want to live with by entering your friends' student numbers on your application, and making sure they do the same.
Our right to refuse
We (Student Living) retain the right to refuse your application if you have lived in halls before and are in debt to us, or have been subject to our disciplinary process.
