Booking terms and conditions

Applications from new students

You can apply for a room in halls now as long as Derby is one of your firm choices on your UCAS form.

We'll review your application and as long as it complies with our booking terms and conditions, we'll send you an Offer of Accommodation including your letting agreement (PDF194KB) and other information.

Applications from returning students

You can apply for a room in halls if you're registered as a full time Derby student when you book and you're intending to remain so while you're living in our halls.

We'll review your application, and as long as it complies with our terms and conditions,we'll let you know whether we can offer you a room in halls.

Here are our booking terms and conditions

  • We'll only consider your application for a room in halls after you've paid your advanced booking payment.  This is an advance on your first term's rent and is needed to secure your booking.
  • If we can't accept or process your application we'll contact you to explain the reasons.
  • We may turn down your application under certain circumstances, for example if you haven't paid the advanced booking payment, if you still owe any hall fees after this year's term 3 payment date,or if your behaviour has been unacceptable while you've been living in halls.
  • When you book you accept that we (Student Living) can and may keep or pass on any relevant information about you, including your address, payment details, conduct and contact details, in the course of our legitimate business operations.
  • We can't guarantee your first choice of room, but we'll do our best to meet your requirements from the choices you've made.
  • We may turn down your booking if we don't have any rooms available when you apply. If this happens we'll refund your advanced booking payment, as long as you're not in debt to us at the time.
  • If you need to attend a work placement outside Derby as part of your course, you are still legally bound to pay your hall fees for the whole of the academic year. To keep costs down many students who need to move out of halls to do their placement find a suitable replacement student to live in and pay for their room in their absence. If you would like to do this Student Living will be happy to provide you with assistance.
