Governance
The main responsibility of the Governing Council is to have oversight of the strategic development of the University and to ensure that there is effective management and control
- The University of Derby has a Governing Council comprising a team of 17 governors.
- The Chairman of Governing Council and Pro Chancellor is Mr Chris Hughes
- The majority of the Council members are independent governors and each of the four committees of Council is chaired by an independent member.
- The other members of Council include the Vice-Chancellor, four staff members and two sabbatical officers of the University of Derby Students' Union.
Governors are expected to undertake their duties in accordance with the Nolan principles for the conduct of public life. The work as governor is voluntary but governors are reimbursed for the travel and accommodation expenses incurred in the course of their duties. Members of the Governing Council may serve for up to three terms of three years and therefore a maximum of nine years. All appointments are recommended through the Nominations and Remuneration Committee and approved by the Governing Council.
