Electronic
Submission, Marking and Feedback – Update
Four
The e-Submission system
is now operational and was used successfully by the Law Team last
week. Views from the staff and students involved will be available
on the website shortly. In addition this bulletin will describe the
support that will be available to students now and over the next few
months.
Your feedback is welcome
about any aspect of the project; please contact your faculty or
departmental representative on the user
group.
How
will the students be supported?
The student support
website, www.derby.ac.uk/esub
was launched this week and is part of an extensive communications
process that the Student Experience Team are delivering for the
project.
This site contains practical help and guidance
for students using the system. USDU are represented throughout the
project and we are working closely to ensure we meet the needs of
the students and improve the learning experience. The project is
currently recruiting student IT Advisors to help and assist fellow
students throughout this first year. IT Advisors are available
throughout the week and weekly clinics are being run at Buxton and
Derby From late
November a series of Road Shows will begin on all
sites.
First
Users.
Jo
Drummond-Child from
the Law team used the system last week to submit a formative piece
or work; this was designed to help the students gain confidence in
using the system. The outcomes were very positive and feedback
gathered from Jo and her students will be available on the website
shortly.
What
Staff Development is available?
The staff development is
mandatory for all
academic staff, so please book now to ensure the slot that best
suits your needs. Dates for this are available on the project
website at the following link Staff Development.
You can access staff development face to face or via online
webinars. After the formal mandatory staff development there are
online audiovisual and printable resources to offer continuing
support. If you would like to arrange a session for a programme or
subject team please contact the LEI Learning Technology
Advisers to arrange this. If you would
simply like a refresher, or have any questions, please don’t
hesitate to contact the team.
IT
equipment?
As you start to mark
online you may benefit from using a larger monitor or an additional second monitor.
During the staff development sessions the Learning Technology
Advisers will discuss this and help assess if you need additional IT
equipment. Once this discussion has taken place staff can log a call
with the IT Services help desk to arrange the installation of
additional support materials.
Confidentiality
and IPR
Substantial work is
being undertaken by the project to establish safe and appropriate
use of the system when considering the use of personal data,
confidential and commercially sensitive data and the Intellectual
property rights that are assigned. By loading work into Turnitin,
the IPR still remains the property of the student. On occasions,
when submitting a personal reflective diary for example, staff have
the option not to include the work in the Turnitin database and not
to have the work checked for plagiarism. If you are unclear about
these options please contact the Learning Technology
Advisers to discuss the issue.
