Electronic
Submission, Marking and Feedback – Update one
From
September 2011 the University will be introducing the process of
submitting textual assignments electronically via Turnitin
seamlessly integrated in to our virtual learning environment,
Blackboard. There will be a phased implementation beginning with all
level four modules in the first semester, followed by all other
students over a two-year implementation period. This allows a period
of transition to electronic marking and feedback during the first
year of operation, where you may choose to adopt a ‘Print to Mark’
option.
LEI, ITS
and SSIS are working closely with academic colleagues to finalise
user requirements, implement the technology and create a portfolio
of staff development resources which can be accessed face to face,
via webinars and self help on-line resources. A dedicated project
website has been created at www.derby.ac.uk/esubmission
, where there will be regular project updates, Frequently Asked
Questions (FAQs) and in time, the staff development
resources.
This is the
first of a series of communications to keep you informed, further
messages will follow regularly.
How
can I access staff development?
Initial
dates for staff development have been set as follows. More will
follow throughout the year building up to the first major submission
point in Nov/Dec 2011.
Derby
July 14th, 21st and 28th
Buxton
July 12th, 19th and 26th
To book a
place on one of these sessions, or find out more about the virtual
support, please contact one of the learning technologists for more
information at Learningtechs@derby.ac.uk
Virtual
Support – drop-in sessions in Wimba Classroom - weekly on Tuesdays
from July 12th from at 10am to 12noon.
Details on
how to book sessions or access virtual support will be available on
the project website: www.derby.ac.uk/esubmission.
It
will be a requirement for all staff to undertake the e-submission
staff development. Support for Level 4 tutors, particularly those
whose students submit work early in the semester will be prioritised
for staff development.
How
will students be supported?
Student
support will be available on a dedicated website at
www.derby.ac.uk/esub. The site
will inform students about workload planning and the submission
processes. Additionally at peak submission points, ‘submission
support clinics’ in prominent positions on all University sites will
be staffed by students who are IT mentors to assist fellow students.
What
information should I put in my programme or module
handbook?
Students
studying level four modules should be advised that they will have to
submit their work online via UDo Course Resources and that an
extensive set of information and support will be available on the
student e-submission website www.derby.ac.uk/esub.
The Student Experience team are working closely with the project to
ensure clear and regular communications take place with
students.
More
information will follow, Faculty management teams have been briefed
and will now start to reiterate and manage the process within
Faculties.
