Examination timetables

Examination timetables

At appropriate times of the year site examination notice boards will display the timetable for the upcoming examination period. Examination timetables are also published on UDo.

Provisional Timetable

First, a provisional timetable will be displayed. At this stage the dates of each examination are subject to change, which is why it is very important that students check the finalised timetable when it is published (please see below). The provisional timetable does not include the rooms that examinations will be held in. It is the student's responsibility to check the provisional timetable and notify the Assessment & Awards Unit in writing of any problems or clashes by the publicised deadline.

Examples of circumstances that should be reported to the Assessment & Awards Unit are as follows:

  • A clash of examinations (ie two examinations taking place at the same time on the same day)
  • An examination that the student is expecting to sit is not listed

Problems or clashes should be reported in writing, either by sending the details including student name, number, module code(s), and title(s) of the examination(s) in question, to examinations@derby.ac.uk or by filling in an Examination Problem Sheet at the Student Support Centre. A contact email address should be included.

When reporting a problem following publication of the provisional timetable, please note that it remains the student's responsibility to check the finalised timetable when it is published for confirmation of the date and time(s) of the examinations. It is not always possible to respond to individual queries. Students will be contacted, usually by email, if there is a specific response to the query, if we need further information, or to inform you if we have put particular arrangements in place to resolve the problem.

If a student will not be available on the day that an examination is due to be sat, then they should contact their module leader to inform them of the situation. If there are acceptable reasons why the student cannot attend the module leader should be able to authorise an ECF (Extenuating Circumstances Form) to defer the examination. Please note however that being on holiday is not an acceptable reason for missing an examination. Hence it is important that students check the dates of the examination periods before booking holidays.

Finalised Timetable

The finalised timetable is then published, usually two weeks after the date of publication of the provisional timetable. (However, please note this timescale may be reduced or increased if necessary.) It is the student's responsibility to check the finalised timetable for confirmation of the date and time of their examinations; the finalised timetable also states the room where each examination will take place.

Dates of timetable publication are available from Student Support Centres and on UDo. Alerts will also be put on UDo as the publication dates approach.
