About the course
This course is unique in Events Management because not only do you study in a real events venue; you'll get to run the events too. Some of our current second year students have set up their own events company, and recently put on a Fashion Show, which was a great succcess.
We are the only university in the UK to have won the Excellence in Training Category of the National Outdoor Events Association Awards, so you know you'll get a great start to your career.
As events become bigger and more complex, event managers need the knowledge, skills and attributes to be able to make the next generation of events as professional, memorable and exciting as possible.
This programme offers you a range of event modules supported by marketing, finance and human resources to develop you as an innovative manager with the ability to succeed in your area of interest.
You will be taught by experienced event practitioners, who have worked in all sectors of the industry from conferences to festivals.
You will also be able to use your skills to organise your own professional events with our own company - Dome Events, gaining the professional experience that employers want.
In 2012 our students are working on an Amateur Boxing night,a charity event for the British Heart foundation, a Buxton Volunteer Centre information evening, a fundraiser in aid of the Make a Wish Foundation and a Vintage Fashion Show to raise money for the Oliver King Foundation.

The Events industry is rapidly expanding and there is a wide range of opportunities within commercial, outdoor, public sector and not-for-profit organisations.
We are very focused on your professional development and you will have your own personal tutor to support and guide you into the career you want.

How you're assessed
You'll be assessed by a combination of written assignments, coursework, oral presentations and written exams.
Fieldtrips
You'll have the opportunity to go on various field trips relating to your course, these cost around £50 each.
Work placements
You'll have the chance to put theory in to practice, and gain hands on experience, by doing an optional work placement in stage three of this course. It will really boost your CV.
You'll also be able to run your own events whilst you are on the course, our second year students have recently put on a fashion show which was a great success. Julian Robinson, Lecturer for the Events Management course said " The success of the fashion show demonstrates just how capable our events management students are".
Anything else?
This year, for the first time, a team of 30 students were employed by Glastonbury festival's security team to help steward the event - and it went so well that tutors are confident that they'll return for future festivals. Read the full story.

This is a resource intensive course.
UK/EU students
- Full time: £7,495 (each year)
- Part time: £935 per module (you usually take 18 of these modules in total).
International students
- Full time: £9,975 (each year)

Course length
- Full time: 3-4 years (including an optional placement year)
- Part time: 4-6 years
If you already have an HND or foundation degree, you can apply for the final year of this course to top up to an honours degree.
