Crime Prevention Advice
The University of Derby - the safe one!
Our University is probably one of the safest and relatively crime free. Any crimes that are committed tend to be minor in nature, crimes involving violence or even threats of violence are almost unheard of.
All crime committed on University property or involving University property must be reported to the Security Team immediately by telephone, personal visit or email so that it can be recorded and enquiries made.
Crime should also be reported to the Police so that those responsible can be brought to justice however sometimes a victim of crime may feel uncomfortable about this so we can speak to them on your behalf if you wish.
We can also put you in contact with University or independent based support agencies that can help you.
We have a good working relationship with local beat Constables and PCSOs operating from the local stations at Allestree and Buxton.
Crime is very difficult to detect after it has been committed but can usually be prevented with a little thought. The team are constantly seeking out crime risks and ways of reducing or removing them and you can do a lot to help so -
- Lock your office when you leave even if only for a short time
- Thieves steal what they see so put valuables, eg laptops away out of sight or better still take them home with you
- Think about what property you really need to bring with you, and if you are not going to require credit cards, cash etc leave it at home
- Try not to leave bags, mobiles, I-Pods and similar property unattended it only takes a second to pick these up
Be vigilant and If you should see a person acting suspiciously, or in an area they shouldn't be, do not approach them yourself, keep them under observation if it is safe to do so and contact Security immediately; we will do the rest.
If you would like us to visit you and give crime prevention advice or have security concerns please contact us and we will be pleased to assist in any way we can.
