EcoCampus
Award update - Silver achieved 18 August 2011
Higher Education specific Environmental Management System (EMS)
What is it?
EcoCampus is an Environmental Management System (EMS) and award scheme for the higher education sector. The scheme allows universities to be recognised for addressing key issues of environmental sustainability.
Why is it important?
EcoCampus encourages, rewards and provides tools to assist universities in moving towards environmental sustainability and good operational and management practices. Our EMS will allow us to control our impact on the environment, reduce the risk of pollution incidents, make sure we comply with environmental legislation and continually improve our operations.
What are we doing?
The scheme is broken down into a number of stages - bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Certain criteria have to be successfully implemented and audited before progressing to the next level. We have a strategy in place which will see us achieve platinum level across all tuition sites by 2013.
A copy of our strategy and implementation timeline can be downloaded from the links below:

Following a presentation to the Corporate Management Team in April 2010, an Environmental Committee has been formed with representatives from all sites, schools and departments. This team meets on a quarterly basis to make sure the EMS is successfully implemented and maintained.
Committee meeting dates are:
- 5 October 2011
- 11 January 2012
- 11 April 2012
- 11 July 2012
- 10 October 2012
