Students in the Atrium at Kedleston Road

We run the following courses:

  • language development sessions
  • International Foundation Programme
  • higher education English modules.
    • You will learn a full range of English language skills, including speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.

You will learn in a small group so you will get lots of help and support from our well-qualified teachers, and you will have plenty of opportunities to participate in the class.

Our English for Speakers of Other Languages courses are open to all adults.

You can also get help with your English from the BBC. You can watch short films or listen to broadcasts. There are quizzes and crosswords too. You can also ask questions or take part in the discussion forums.

      Which course is for me?

Most of our courses are available at both our Derby and Buxton campuses.

Our language development sessions focus on developing your academic writing, speaking, listening and reading skills.

If you're about to start your undergraduate degree here at Derby, and want to improve your general English skills, and the English skills you need to do well in your course, our pre-sessional English courses can help you.

Our International Foundation Programme is for students wanting to study an undergraduate degree a and focuses on improving your language and academic knowledge in the area you want to study.

And, you can also choose to include higher education English modules into your degree course.
