English language support and preparation programmes
If English is not your first language, and you want to improve your language skills for academic study, our International Student Centre English Language Team can help you.
We run the following courses:
- International Foundation Programme
- Pre-sessional English courses
- Language development sessions (undergraduate and postgraduate)
You will learn a full range of English language skills, including speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.
You will learn in a small group so you will get lots of help and support from our well-qualified teachers, and you will have plenty of opportunities to participate in the class.
You can also get help with your English from the BBC. You can watch short films or listen to broadcasts. There are quizzes and crosswords too. You can also ask questions or take part in the discussion forums.
Which course is for me?
All courses are offered at our Derby campus.
Undergraduate language development sessions may be available at our Buxton campus depending on student demand.
Our language development sessions focus on developing your academic writing, speaking, listening and reading skills.
If you're about to start your undergraduate degree here at Derby, and want to improve your general English skills, and the English skills you need to do well in your course, our pre-sessional English courses can help you.
Our International Foundation Programme is for students wanting to study an undergraduate degree and focuses on improving your language and academic knowledge in the area you want to study.
