Supporting the Faculty and School Vision
I am currently a Senior Lecturer in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship at the University of Derby. I lecture at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels within the Business School and across other university faculties, with particular focus on Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. I have also delivered lectures in Southern Africa, and was instrumental in developing Entrepreneurship in Botswana, introducing an undergraduate degree in Enterprise and the new Entrepreneurial centre. I recently managed the HEFCE/NESTA project, this linked MBa Business students with the creative sector and used action based learning to promote growth in SME's.
I have substantial experience in teaching undergraduate and post-graduate students and also working with post-experience enterprise and entrepreneurship programmes, as well as working with students and graduates who are developing new business ventures. I am also active in making new connections between enterprise learning, career development and employability.
I believe very strongly in taking a practiced based approach to learning formulated around my own business experience and theoretical understanding.
I joined the University of Derby in 2005 as Programme Development Manger within the Centre for Entrepreneurial Management with responsibility for managing a diverse portfolio of student / graduate and SME business start up and business development projects. I have over 30 years experience in the arena of 'Business Training and Development' including Business Adviser and Corporate Lending Manager with a high street bank; Head of Business Advice and Training for an Enterprise Agency; Manager externally funded business development projects for Business Link
I am a former Board member of the Princes Trust Derbyshire, past East Midlands Regional Group Chairman of British Junior Chamber and a Senator of Junior Chamber International.
