Enrolment guide
You need to enrol each year to formally register as a student.
Completion of enrolment releases:
- Access to all university facilities and online resources (allow 24 hours)
- Your student loan* (first instalment in three to five working days)
- Your university bursary* (on payment dates).
*where applicable.
When you arrive on campus to complete enrolment you may find our mini How to: Enrol guide useful in finding your way around and there's always plenty of enrolment staff to ask if you get stuck - Just look for the blue t-shirts!
» Invitation to enrol
You'll receive an email at the beginning of January inviting you to enrol online prior to your arrival on campus*.
This will be sent to:
- The email address you provided during the admissions process - New students
- Your unimail address - Returning students.
This will include your username and password along with the link to the online enrolment system.
Your username will always be your student ID number and your password a random sequence of letters. If you're a returning student your existing UDo password will also be accepted.
*Please note:
- If you're a new Joint Honours student you won't receive this email as you need to enrol on campus. Please contact the Programme Advisory Service for details
- If you're a distance learning or placement year student you're not expected on campus for any part of the enrolment process.
» Module selection
You should discuss your module choices with your academic each year so that you stay on track with the modules you need to study.
You're given the opportunity to do this, and get a signed module selection form, when you arrive on campus as part of your faculty induction.
If you're a distance learning or placement year student you can discuss your choices with your academic by remote methods.
When making your choices you won't need to select any modules that:
- You've requested APL for
- You have an active refer or defer against in a previous academic year.
» Online enrolment (self service)
Starting off
First, take a few moments to familiarise yourself with the instructions on the Welcome page. 'Help' boxes along the way will also provide you with extra on-screen guidance.
After reading the Declaration, click on the Terms & Conditions to view these in more detail. They'll open in a new window so you''ll need to close this down before you can tick to accept them and continue to enrol.
Information about you
Carrying on you'll be guided through a sequence of screens to check your personal and programme details.
Please note:
- Your date of birth will be shown in an American format, so will appear with the date and month reversed. This isn't an error and you can continue enrolling
- You'll be unable to update your programme details online, so if any of these are wrong please contact the Student Records and Fees team before going any further. You can continue enrolling as soon as we've reviewed this for you.
If you're a returning student you won't be asked to check all your contact details during enrolment, but you can still do this via UDo.
Choosing your modules
On arrival at your Course List you'll be asked to select each of your modules individually.
If you can't see the module (or semester) you need within the lists provided please contact the Student Records and Fees team for guidance.
Don't worry if you make any mistakes! You'll be able to change your module selection before you finally confirm your choices or we can change this for you before your enrolment is confirmed.
Enrolment summary
When you reach the end of enrolment online you'll be shown a summary of your registration.
Paying your fees
After checking the summary screen, you can then either log out or, if you're paying your own fees, take the opportunity to pay securely online.
If you don't want to pay online you can call our Finance team on 01332 591022, or see a cashier in person on campus.
For more information on paying your tuition fees please see confirmation of enrolment.
What next
Once you've completed enrolment online you'll be able to proceed straight to confirmation of enrolment.
Don't worry if you're unable to complete online enrolment before you arrive on campus. Full facilities will be available to you during the enrolment session scheduled into your faculty induction.
» Confirmation of enrolment (inc. cashier)
Upon completion of the online process you must confirm your enrolment with a member of the enrolment team on campus*. You'll have a timed slot for this during your faculty induction.
*If you're a distance learning or placement year student you won't need to come in. We'll confirm your enrolment as soon as you've enrolled online and made any necessary payments.
Come prepared
- Take a look at the university's Tuition Fee Booklet (PDF, 2.45mb). It contains full details of your course costs as well as the fee payment dates
- See what you'll need for confirmation:
On the day we'll check your registration with you and explain your tuition fees. You'll then be able to make any payments required before we confirm your enrolment.
If you don't complete enrolment you could be withdrawn from the university, so please ensure you contact us if you're having any problems.
Proof of enrolment
After we've confirmed your enrolment you'll receive a completion email. This is your proof of registration at Derby, so keep it safe.
» ID card
If you're a new student you'll have your photo taken for your ID card during your confirmation of enrolment session.
Once you've completed enrolment you can collect your card right away. We'll tell you where to go on the day.
Your card will last for the duration of your studies so you won't need a new one each year.
If you're a distance learning student, send us an application form and we'll post your card out to you.
