Our Information Technology courses are currently based at the University’s main site, Kedleston Road. From 2017, the courses will be based at Markeaton Street. We have eight dedicated computing laboratories, including two open-plan software development studios, one networking laboratory and five general purpose computing labs. All labs contain dual-screen, multiprocessor computers equipped with a variety of industry-standard commercial and open source software, and there are dedicated technicians to provide support. You can also borrow equipment, such as video cameras, mobile devices, laptops and various hardware.
Employment rates of 100%
We are an official academic partner with Microsoft, IBM, SAS, CISCO and Epic (games development), and have an excellent record for employability. In the Higher Education Statistics Agency’s (HESA) 2014 survey of graduate leavers, between 85% (Information Technology) and 100% (Computer Networks and Security) of students were in work or full-time study within six months of completing their course.

Organisations regularly set our students realistic projects so that we can simulate as closely as possible what it’s like to work in a particular field. We have invested in the latest software and hardware to make sure your learning environment is as close to a real workplace as possible. Even the layout of the computing rooms is modelled on industry. We are also Microsoft IT, IBM and SAS Academy members, which means we can offer you official exams at a discounted rate, as well as access to online resources and professional tools provided by Microsoft and SAS.

The Big Show
The Big Show is the University end of year Undergraduate Degree Show for students involving a series of live events and exhibitions across the city of Derby. Our Information Technology students showcase their work at our Kedleston Road and Markeaton Street site. The Degree show offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the very best of emerging contemporary art and design practice from our final year students. Their work explores the issues and subjects of today's world also looks ahead predicting and setting the trends of tomorrow.
