Improving End of Life Care

Why choose this course?

These courses are free for non-NHS health and social care professionals and provide a great CPD opportunity for the development of knowledge in end of life care.

About the course

If you work in the independent health or social sectors as a nurse and would like to develop your knowledge of end of life care, our short course series could be the perfect developmental opportunity for you.

You can choose from the following sessions:

Introduction to palliative care

You'll need to attend on:

  • Wednesday 16 November 2011 (2pm - 4.30pm)
  • Wednesday 23 November 2011 (2pm - 4.30pm)
  • Wednesday 30 November 2011 (2pm - 4.30pm)
  • Wednesday 7 December 2011 (2pm - 4.30pm)

From this seminar you'll be able to demonstrate knowledge of external influences which have a direct affect on end of life care, how to deliver quality palliative care services, and physical, psychological and social factors which impact on end of life patients.

Enhancing communication skills in palliative care

You can choose between either:

  • Thursday 15 December 2011 or
  • Wednesday 14 March 2012 

On both dates you'll need to come in between 10am -12.30pm and then 2pm - 4.30pm.

You'll be able to demonstrate knowledge of sensitive and responsive communication with patients and relatives, and communicating effectively with other agencies and health care professionals. 

Respecting the individual needs of the patients at end of life

You'll need to attend on:

  • 16 February 2012 (2pm - 4.30pm)
  • 23 February 2012 (2pm - 4.30pm)

Delegates will be able to demonstrate knowledge of legal aspects of end of life care, promoting choice and respecting patients rights to make decisions.
