Emma Jeffery - BSc (Hons) Construction Management
Emma Jeffery studied our FdSc Construction and then went on to do our BSc (Hons) Construction Management.
» What have you enjoyed most about the course?
"The knowledge I gained completing the legal studies module has proved very useful."
I enjoyed getting a rounded knowledge of the construction industry and have found it very useful to understand the overall process from tendering and costing, contracts and procurement through to managing a project during the contruction phase. I particularly enjoyed the legal studies module which I also found the most challenging part of my degree.
» Have you done a placement?
"The work placements I completed were very valuable and allowed me to transfer the theory I had learnt into practical skills on site and in the office."
This furthered my industry knowledge and helped me to secure employment when I had completed my degree, as I had relevant work experience alongside my qualification.
» What do you think to the facilities and equipment?
"The facilities and equipment met the needs of the course and in the second year our lectures were moved to the impressive Markeaton Street Site when it opened."
I was also involved in the refurbishment of a number of classrooms as part of a work placement at the end of my first year, so of course they were finished to a very high standard! This was a great experience and we were able to relate our learning to a real project.
» How have you found the lecturers?
The lecturers provided additional support if it was needed which was great particularly in the first year. The tutorials were very helpful for the dissertation as it was such a big project.
» What do you think of the University and Derby?
"It was the best option for me as it was local, overall the facilities and resources available were excellent and I was able to achieve high results."
I really enjoyed completing my degree at Derby, the social aspects were great and I made some good friends.
» What would you say to somebody thinking of coming here to study?
"I think it is important to choose the right course and know what you want to achieve at the end of it, as this will give you the motivation to do well."
I had a very positive experience completing my degree at Derby University and I would recommend it to others.
