Religion and Belief in Higher Education project

Religion and Belief

Over the past few decades, the religion and belief composition of the student and staff bodies in English, Welsh and Northern Irish higher education institutions has changed substantially. In addition to its growing diversity, the profile of religion and belief and belief has also changed, becoming more visible and public than was previously the case in many institutions.

The Equality Challenge Unit has commissioned research to develop an evidence base for understanding the experience of staff and students in higher education with a religion or belief. This will inform the further development of more inclusive policy and practice within the higher education sector that mets legal obligations while also extending good good practice.

The final report of the project  'Religion and belief in HE: researching the experiences of staff and students' was Launched 11 July 2011 and is available from the Equality Challenge Unit website.

The project team includes staff from the University of Derby's Society, Religion and Belief Research Group and  International Centre for Guidance Studies.
