Library
I've found having access to electronic resources so useful as it allows me to be able access information 24 hours a day and means I don't have to visit the library every time I want to work on my assignments.
”Hannah Jones, Advanced Diploma in Nursing Studies
The Library in the Education Centre at Chesterfield Royal Hospital is the main library for students studying at Chesterfield and provides access to books and print journals. There are also computers available for you to use the internet.
Library opening hours
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 8.30am to 5.00pm
Wednesday: 8.30am to 6.30pm
Student resources room
We have a student resources room which can be used for private study. This is stocked with a range of text books, journals and nursing related publications that can be used onsite.
Library catalogue
You can search the University of Derby's library catalogue by keyword to see what books, electronic books and print journals we have access to. If you want to view the full-text (i.e. the whole thing) of an electronic book then you will have to be logged in to UDo first.
Information resources page
On this page you'll find links to:
The Electronic journals a-z list
If we subscribe to a journal electronically it will appear in this list. If it's not here, we don't take it in electronic format but you should still check the library catalogue to see if we take it in print form.
Electronic book collections
You can either search the library catalogue for a particular keyword and see what electronic books come up in your results or, if you know that the majority of ebooks for your subject are in a particular collection e.g. for nursing that would be Dawsonera, you can go directly to that collection and search within it for keywords / subjects / author and so on.
Indexes and databases
This is a list of all the databases that we subscribe to. You can use them to search for journal articles in your subject area. The databases are in alphabetical order - not subject - so you will need to know which database you're looking for.
For a tailored list that is specific to nursing, go to the Resources by Subject page (the link is in the menu bar at the top of this screen) and click on the link for nursing. You will find a list of resources specific to your subject here including databases and ebooks.
Further help and information
Training in using the various databases will be done by library staff, from the Chesterfield Royal Hospital library, by arrangement with your lecturer. If, after you've had that training, you need further assistance, you can arrange an appointment with one of the librarians at the CRH library. Contact details are on the CRH page.
Alternatively, you can phone or email the Health Subject Librarian at Kedleston Road who will be happy to help you.

Getting books and articles from Derby
Students at Chesterfield are entitled to use the InFocus (Information For Off-Campus Students) scheme. This will allow you to place a reservation on a book via the University's library catalogue and the Distributed Learning Unit (DLU) will then issue it to you before posting it out.
You will need to register with the DLU before you can use the service for the first time, and you will have to pay postage returning any items you request.
