Ex Mill employees visit the modernised building

On 13 January 2010 we hosted a special day at Britannia Mill, for former employees who worked there in the 1950s. Allan Spencer, the factory's former Production Director contacted us and asked for a visit, and we were more than happy to show the ex-employees their old workplace.

Around 30 former employees came, and were shown around by staff and current students. The guests thoroughly enjoyed a presentation on the history of the site by two local historians, Derek Palmer and Don Farnsworth, and their tour around the modernised building. BBC Radio Derby even came along to interview Mr Spencer and the EHS Assistant Dean, Jen Lewis-Smith.

The day was a huge success, with many of the ex-employees commenting on how happy they were to have revisited the Mill. The tour was closed by our Dean, Helen Langton.

Here at Derby it's important for us to work closely with our local community. Find out more about the work we've been doing in Sturgess Fields and with other members of the local community.
