Who we are and what we do
One of our Education Liaison Mentors helping school children on a visit to Derby
We need students currently studying at Derby or Buxton to become Education Liaison Mentors to help us raise awareness of higher education and its benefits in local schools and colleges.
Current activities at Derby and Buxton
Visits to local schools and colleges where we:
- attend careers, options and parents evenings
- attend higher education fairs regionally and UCAS conventions nationally
- deliver question and answer sessions with student ambassadors
- deliver talks to school and college students, parents and teachers about:
- the benefits of higher education
- what life is like studying at Derby
- hints and tips about choosing a course and university
- the different courses that are available to them at university
- fees and finance
- personal statements
- student life.
School and college visits to the University involve:
- presentations
- workshops to encourage school and college students to think about higher education for themselves
- taster days to give them an interactive taste of what subjects they can study and how they're taught at university
- residentials where schools and college students get to stay in our halls of residence
- and support at open days.
If you're a current undergraduate student studying at Derby or Buxton you can work for us and help us with the activities we put on for schools and colleges.
