Why did you choose to come to the University of Derby?

I wanted to study at Derby because even from an initial phone call I was made to feel welcome. I always got the feeling that we were one big family whereas some other places I just felt like a number, not a person.

Why did you choose your course?

When it came to picking the course it took me a while and I consulted many people along the way. I completed the Stamford test on the UCAS website many times and the one thing that came back every time was Forensic Science. I have always been interested in science and how things work and why but I didn't want to specialise in a particular discipline, as I thought that it would limit my options further down my career. Forensic Science is the use of science within Law and follows Locard's principle, so this involves chemistry, physics and biology and I love the practical sessions.

What's the best thing about being at Derby?

I feel like I have a great support plan in place and it's easy to communicate with the lecturers. I've settled in better than I could have hoped for and I can honestly say that I have made many, many great friends that will stay with me for life.

What do you want to do after you graduate?

Once I've achieved my degree I would like to stay at Derby and train to be a teacher which will again open up more options for me.

What clubs/societies do you belong to?

I belong to the Forensic Science Society, which I set up myself this year.

Where are you living while at University?

I come from a village called Kingsteignton in South Devon and moved into St Christopher's Court Halls when I first started and now I have my own flat close by the uni.
