Expected behaviour policy

To ensure the smooth running of events and the safety of participants the University of Derby has behaviour guidelines in place for visiting students.

We ask that accompanying school or college staff help support events by encouraging students to adhere to these.

  • We do not tolerate bullying and if we do witness anything of this nature during a visit we will alert school or college staff so it can be addressed.
  • Visiting students are expected to participate in sessions and behave respectfully towards their peers, accompanying staff and members of the University.
  • As visits often take place when University is in session, students are asked to behave sensibly when moving around the buildings, keeping noise to a minimum in corridors and other study areas.
  • We strive to keep our University clean and tidy for our community, to help with this students are asked to put rubbish in the bins provided around the University and clear their tables in the refectory areas after eating. The University is a very busy environment. Drives and the turning circle are constantly in use by buses, site vehicles and visiting cars. To meet health and safety guidelines we ask visiting students get permission from a member of staff before leaving the buildings.
  • Alcohol must not be purchased at, or brought onto, University premises and further to this students are not permitted access to the Academy bar unless as part of a scheduled guided tour.
  • Smoking is only allowed for participants aged 16 or above in designated smoking areas. No one under 18 is permitted to buy cigarettes, and no one over 18 will buy cigarettes on any student's behalf.
  • Keddies shop has been asked not to sell energy drinks to students on visits, in line with many of our partner schools' policies.

We will endeavour to support individual school and college behaviour policies, so should you have any particular requirements for students outside of these guidelines, please feel free to discuss these with our team.
