Yasmin Ayub - Bachelor of Education
These experiences have enhanced my confidence levels considerably
”Background
I came to University straight from completing my A levels, therefore all I have really known is Education. However I did not apply for the course through UCAS, I didn't apply to University at all to begin with. My confidence level wasn't very high at this point and I didn't think I would get onto this course. It was my Mum who motivated me to apply for the course through clearing stages, and so I did, and I got on!
Motivation
Your friends become a massive motivation tool when you start University. It is true what they say about making friends for life. Especially when you live with them as I did in my second and third years of being at University. Placement is a great time and it motivates me a lot as I love being in school. Different things happen everyday and you learn so much from being there.
Highlights and Achievements
I have gained so much from doing this course, not only in terms of gaining a degree but things that I will remember for the rest of my life. I have had the chance to go to an Elementary school in America and the opportunity to work with children who have Special Educational Needs. I have also gained a job from my placement as a part time Teaching Assistant with Special Needs children. This experience is so valuable to any teacher and therefore I feel extremely privileged to have had this chance.
I am also a qualified first aider from training set up by the University, which again is all valuable for the job I want to get at the end of the course. Along with being on placement there are so many opportunities to visit other schools and take part in other days such as Languages and Science day. These experiences have enhanced my confidence levels considerably.
How have I changed?
Before starting University I couldn't even ask a question to a person working in a shop. I would be like "Can you ask for me?" Now I think how silly that was and that people don't bite. I now feel like a teacher and that this is my profession. Before I felt like I was a student, training to be a teacher. I feel like for a 22 year old I have had a lot of experiences that some might never experience and that makes me feel very grateful. I am currently working on the Macmillan Unit too, and this, alongside my degree has formed the person that I am today.
