Aamar Arshid - Bachelor of Education
Aamar is in his third year studying the Bachelor of Education and has had a passion for teaching since a young age.
How did you choose this path?
Aamar had done work experience in a local accountancy firm when he was in Year 13 and didn't like the prospect of working in front of a computer all day. "It was from here I realised that I could not sit in front of a computer for the rest of my life, as I am far too creative".
"Teaching was a passion I had since a very young age so immediately I changed courses to the B.Ed. I believe that this is one of the best decisions I have made in my life, regardless of the stress of assignments and the nerves of placement".
How are you finding the course?
"My first impressions of the course were very different to how I imagined university to be. All the lectures are very engaging and interactive. The lecturers themselves are very fun and approachable. And all are dipping in and out of schools, so therefore, have frequent and recent school experiences". "The feedback from the marking tutors have always been very helpful and has assisted my progress and improved my assignments drastically".
Placement
"My first day at school placement was very nerve racking. I was in a village school in a mixed Year 5 and 6 class. It was the first time I had seen a school so small, as I live in the city and all the schools in my local area are huge. Having just started my third year I believe I have gained so much from the B.Ed course. I have grown as an individual; I have become a lot more confident. For example, 3 years ago I do not think I would be able to stand in front of a class and teach them various subjects across the National Curriculum and now I can not wait to get into a class and think of creative ways of teaching the children and making a difference. It is so rewarding to see the children enjoy the lessons that came together after a lot of thinking and planning. One memory that will be with me for the rest of my life is when a child wrote on my leavers card 'Mr. Arshid you are like sunshine on a rainy day".
The Future
"When I qualify I will gain a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and also be a specialist in Mathematics as this is the field I have chosen to specialise in. I believe after studying the B.Ed course for 4 years I will be fully prepared to have and teach my own class".
