Dr Vivienne Walkup gives an introduction to the subject of Education Studies

Former students

As her children got older, Hayley wanted to do something new, so she did an Access course, and is now a teacher in further education.

Fred gained his Certificate in Education: Further Education at 65 and now teaches 'Skills 4 Life' for a training organisation.

Tracey now teaches in a Primary School and is topping up her foundation degree to a BA (Hons) Education Studies. She's training as a teacher, on the job.

Explore different education scenarios

By studying our BA (Hons) Education Studies, you'll get a broad knowledge of education. You'll be encouraged to think about the different aspects of education, where and how education happens, including primary education, secondary education, lifelong learning, and higher education. You'll also gain a deeper understanding of the aims and purposes of education and its role within society. We also offer the course as part of our Joint Honours scheme allowing you to combine the study of education with another area that interests you.

Our supportive and committed teaching team are all highly skilled practitioners from a range of backgrounds. This includes primary education, secondary education, the lifelong learning sector, special educational needs education, policy makers at a governmental level, international education, psychology, sociology; as well as educational research.

You'll have excellent career opportunities

Our students come from a range of backgrounds, and go on to work in many different areas. By studying Education Studies, you'll have the opportunity to develop a range of employability skills. These include time management; organisational skills, independent working; communication, including speaking and listening; presentation skills; team working and self confidence. These skills can all be transferred into a diverse range of employment opportunities once you have completed your studies.
