What can you expect?

Overview of the Doctor of Education (EdD)

We'll begin the evening with a talk focused upon the content and structure of the course. This will demonstrate the progressive module structure of the EdD course which has been carefully designed to allow you to build on your skills and knowledge and effectively prepare you for your final thesis. We will discuss the time commitment that you'll be required to make and the support that you can expect to receive throughout your study.

A chance to meet the team

You will meet the teaching team who will be supporting and guiding you throughout your study. They include Dr Val Poultney, Dr Neil Radford, Professor Dennis Hayes, Dr Vivienne Walkup, Dr Codra Spencer and Dr John Coxhead. Our team are highly experienced mentors and have a vast amount of experience across a range of educational issues to support your doctoral study. Professor Dennis Hayes is an expert on the issue of 'academic freedom' and Dr Val Poultney has specialist knowledge in management and leadership issues in secondary education. Having the opportunity to speak with our teaching team will also enable you to discuss your research ideas and receive feedback and advice on the focus for your doctoral study.

Balancing study with other commitments

Embarking upon doctoral study is a significant commitment. As a result, we will discuss with you the importance of managing personal and professional time, and how you can be supported to do this. A number of our current students will also be available throughout the evening and will share their experiences with you.

Supporting your research

During the evening you will be provided with information about our Centre for Educational Research. Our research centre will greatly benefit your professional development as it provides an opportunity for you to network with others who are researching and developing good practice across all sectors of education.

A chance to meet your fellow students

An important purpose of the evening is to allow you to meet other students who will be enrolling on the course in January. We believe it's important for you to interact and share knowledge with your peers.

We look forward to meeting you and discussing the Doctor of Education with you on 31 October.

Before you arrive please read the documents below which will provide information on the application process and will provide answers to questions we are frequently asked about the course.
