What course are you studying?
I study the MA Education programme (part time).
Why did you choose to study this course?
I chose this course because I wanted to enhance and expand some of my existing skills and to enable me to contextualise some of the key issues of education outside of my vocational field of dentistry.
What have you particularly enjoyed about the course?
The learning environment has been really enjoyable, the group size has meant that we are all individuals and our voices heard. And whilst we are all involved in education we are from different sectors and shared experience has meant we've had lively discussions.
What has your experience been of the lecturers and facilities at Derby?
The sessions have been lively, interesting and enjoyable. We have had guest speakers and we have not only looked at course content, but at designing academic posters with the freedom to plan and design your take on ‘leadership’.
How have you found it fitting the course around your work and your other commitments?
I am a part time student and it has been fairly easy to fit this course around my professional commitments and my demanding teenage boys, and the team are understanding and flexible towards mature students.
How do you feel the course has benefited you both personally and professionally?
Much of my world revolves around dentistry and I wanted to align my skills and knowledge within another area. It has been enriching and given me that opportunity to develop outside of dentistry.
What would you say to someone thinking of going on the course?
It is time consuming, but well worth it, you can do it if you manage your time well. I have a list of commitments professionally and two teenagers to contend with as well as my horses. It is a fulfilling course and I would fully recommend the course. The modules I selected have also been a real asset.
