European Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Research Cluster (EGRTRC)
Dr John Coxhead
This research cluster is a European nexus point for social and educational research about often overlooked issues facing Romany Gypsies, Travellers and Roma. The existing data reveals that these groups face extensive social deprivation across a range of measures, including education, health and justice and a lack of culturally appropriate accommodation for many
The EGRTRC network brings together those with an interest in developing greater understanding and insight into issues facing Gypsies, Travellers and Roma, with a practical focus on improving professional practice. Linking together key Non Governmental Organisations, academics and commentators, the group draws together Pan European, and where applicable, global experience, in a desire to make best practice common practice wherever possible.
Cluster members are keen to support research and integrate all efforts in progressing what is a key social issue of the 21st Century. To achieve this, seminars, discussion groups, mentoring, media dissemination and occasional publications are undertaken with the joint purpose of both integrating understanding with a passion to drive professional practice improvement
