Why choose this course?

The first five years of a child’s life are thought to be the most important period for their development. As an Early Years Teacher, you’ll nurture and encourage 0-5 year olds to develop skills and knowledge that will create the foundation for their futures.

  • Gain the professional status of Early Years Teacher (ETYS) alongside a specialist undergraduate degree
  • Compulsory work placements offer you a diverse range of experience to prepare you for your future career 
  • You’ll also have the option of undertaking enhanced placements within the wider context of early years, which could include children’s centres, forest schools or special educational needs (SEN) nurseries
  • Develop the skills to become a graduate leader of practice in the early years sector.

Where will it take you?

96.9% of Derby graduates were in work or further study within six months of completing a full-time degree.

Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be qualified as an Early Years Teacher. This means you will be able to lead the Foundation Stage curriculum within early years settings, such as day nurseries/children’s centres or academies.

You could also go onto community roles within the early years sector, including careers as a family support worker or working alongside health visitors to support parents.
