“The teaching methods are very innovative and the lectures are very interactive, so everyone has an opportunity to participate. The tutors are also very helpful and co-operative in matters such as personal issues, academic advice and personal development”
– Afroze Ali Khan
Afroze Ali Khan studied Masters in Human Resource Management
My first degree was in computer science after which I joined a government organisation where my work mainly involved personnel management, administration and HR practices. Since I had this work experience in HR, I decided to study for my Masters degree in Human Resource Management.
Take it as a challenge
Studying the Masters was a very exhilarating experience. It was a major career changing decision for me as I had a stable job and was progressing well, but I decided for my personal satisfaction and future growth that it was important to enhance my education.
For me HRM was best suited as it would improve my business and corporate understanding at a higher level, and help me to gain vital skills to enhance business professionalism and maximize self productivity.
What did the course involve?
The programme is planned in a wonderful way. It gives the opportunity to refresh the knowledge of basic subjects of business studies and of key business functions. There is also a lot of flexibility in the substantial variety of modules to choose from that depend on individual interest. Another very important feature of the course is a three day residential where we were taken away from the University for outdoor activities. Apart from the academic learning this gives an excellent opportunity to build relations with other students.
The way the course is structured makes it stimulating and interesting
The course isn't just a whole cluster of theories but the practical application of these theories, which makes it more exciting. There are a lot of case studies of real and hypothetical organisations which makes it very interesting, and not only improved my conceptual understanding but also helped me to retain the knowledge too.
The teaching methods are very innovative and the lectures are very interactive, so everyone has an opportunity to participate. The tutors are also very helpful and co-operative in matters such as personal issues, academic advice and personal development.
During the course I was able to interact with students from all over the world and diverse backgrounds. It gave me a wonderful opportunity to learn about their culture and traditions, and it also made me understand how different values, beliefs and practices lead to people thinking differently.
Time to improve
The course gave me a wonderful opportunity to improve my interpersonal skills and enhance my level of confidence. Being engaged in group activities and participating in class either individually or in group presentation was a great learning opportunity. I realised that the more I got involved the more I felt comfortable and confident to communicate my views. It also gave me a good understanding to put across my views in a logical manner which greatly helps in improving one's persuasive skills.
Reading for this course improved my academic knowledge tremendously, and I learnt how to look at things critically and question different views logically. Doing various assignments was again a great learning activity. I improved my essay and report writing skills as I always took the feedback on my assignments positively, and referred back to my mistakes whenever working on the next one. All of these benefits have helped me greatly in making myself more employable.
It's a must-do course
I strongly recommend this course to individuals who aspire to develop their career in HR. This course has been of tremendous help to me, and the knowledge that I've gained will certainly prove valuable for me in my HR role. Attaining a full CIPD qualification has enhanced my employability and makes my HR career profile much credible.
