Jill Hanson and Stephany Kau - Supporting ethnic minority business in Normanton, Derby

Stephany Kau

Stephany Kau

Stephany Kau, a masters student at Derby, is working on Jill Hanson's team to establish Normanton as a multicultural centre along the lines of Birmingham's curry mile.

Jill Hanson and a team of academics from Derby are conducting a census of ethnic minority businesses (EMB) in the Normanton area of Derby. This includes initially mapping them out geographically and determining the size and nature of the businesses.

A needs gap analysis for the businesses explores the availability of support for EMBs in Derby, as well as the effectiveness and take up of this support and identification of what else would be of use to them.

The project is being run in conjunction with JET - a Grass Roots Charity based in the heart of Normanton which delievers support to the community with respect to jobs, education and training.

A second related project is being developed by the team and a current masters student, Stephany Kau, to establish Normanton as a multicultural centre along the lines of Birmingham's curry mile. This is also in conjunction with JET.
