What the professional bodies say

European Mentoring and Coaching Council

The message at the European Mentoring and Coaching Council Conference (Prague, December 2008) was to use coaching in management and leadership to respond to challenges of the world to take things forward.

It allows people to step out of self interest and into commonality.  That doesn't mean we don't have things that are important to us and it does not replace anything.  It simply means creating space to do more.

Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)

The CIPD (2005) training and development survey found coaching to be one of the most valuable tools in effective leadership development, with 91% of respondents believing investment in leadership development links directly to business performance.

However they also reported that coaching is one of the most frequently reported leadership skills gaps.
