About the course

The BA Hons Marketing and Advertising Management degree will introduce you to a wide range of marketing disciplines from advertising to reputation management.

You'll learn how to develop research briefs, identify target markets and understand consumers markets.

Year One

The first stage is shared across all marketing degrees. You'll also be introduced to the fundamentals of marketing understanding how marketing functions in a real business in conjunction with other departments and customers.
You'll learn the business disciplines of finance, economics, data analysis and human resource management and how these relate to marketing.

Through a combination of teamwork and individual assessments you'll have the opportunity to work on a business simulation working in teams with allocated roles including:

  • Managing Director
  • HR Director
  • Finance Director

As part of the course you will learn to analyse market conditions, competitors and methods of improving cost efficiency.

Year Two

Building on your core knowledge in the first year, you'll start to specialise in marketing and advertising areas in the second year. Marketing communication and branding, relationship marketing and media planning are just some of the areas you'll look at.

Year Three -Placement Year

You can choose to take an optional placement year in your third year, or continue straight to the final year. Our students often say that their placement year is the most rewarding part of the course. You can work alongside professionals in your chosen area and see first hand how the knowledge and skills you've learnt are put into practice. Our Placements Officer will help you find a position and support you throughout the placement period.

The final stage of BA (Hons) Marketing and Advertising Management focuses more on strategy. You'll learn about:

• Strategic change
• Advertising psychology
• Advertising strategy
• PR and reputation management.

You'll also choose two options, so you can start to specialise your knowledge. You will apply all of your learning in the final stage in the Independent Study, an in-depth study of a marketing discipline within an organisation or sector, in an area that interests you.

You'll be taking modules that are accredited by key marketing professional bodies. The BA (Hons) Marketing and Advertising Management is one of only a few marketing courses in the UK that is accredited by The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) for a Dual Award. This Dual Award means that while you are studying for your qualification you also have the opportunity to work towards achieving the CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing as part of your degree programme, enabling you to graduate with an enhanced qualification that are sought after by employers. This additional professional qualification makes you more marketable by distinguishing you from other candidates and is another important step in your career development.

In addition, with appropriate work experience you will be eligible to join The Chartered Institute of Marketing with associate or member status and signatory letters ACIM or MCIM.
