  • Our facilitators are experienced postgraduate qualified coaches who engage in on-going reflective practice.  They are actively engaged in research, which means that you're learning the latest practices and tools in this expanding business area.
  • You will study part time, through two-day workshop sessions which take place on Fridays and Saturdays and online.
  • You are encouraged to apply the tools, theories and techniques you learn in your workplace throughout the course, so you are bringing immediate benefit to those work with and practically developing your skills along the way.

About the course

Coaching is a rapidly growing area and leadership coaching is gaining popularity as a means of developing individuals and teams at work.

Coaching develops people rather than imposes. It allows for flexibility and focuses on developing proactive, solutions-focused behaviour.  At Derby we believe you do not 'train' a coach. We will help develop you, through practical approaches to learning, so that you can bring out you and others.

You will develop your skills as a coach, your own self-awareness and gain an understanding of a variety of tools that can help to bring about lasting change in the work context.

The organisations you work with will benefit from improved levels of performance, clearer communications, enhanced leadership capability and potential. The MA Leadership Coaching course will provide an experience in line with ethical and professional coaching body quality standards and addresses business leadership and management developmental needs. This helps to fill the current UK business leadership skills gap (CIPD, 2009).

We will help you become an effective coaching practitioner who will strive to:

  • develop a mindset to help find and allow for future growth and sustainability (people, place and planet)
  • inspire leadership in others
  • make the most significant difference
  • focus on peoples strengths
  • understand people and organisations
  • help people learn how to learn
  • mobilise what people know
  • problem solve and be solutions focused
  • be creative and innovative to help find strategic positioning.

Through a final Business Impact study, you will be able to demonstrate your coaching qualities and added value.  We will also help you to meet the professional and ethical standards of bodies such as EMCC, AC, ICF, CIMA and CIPD.

"I have found the course to be not only highly enjoyable, but highly relevant to my work. I've learnt a myriad of new tools and skills, all of which I have been able to apply in my work.

The course is highly experiential learning based and I find that I learn and apply the skills much more quickly compared to traditional teaching methods.

The tutors are highly competent, and make the course interesting, relevant and fun. I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants to work more effectively with people."
