Kieron Cox - BA (Hons) Business Studies
Kieron Cox studied BA (Hons) Business Studies Fast Track.
A degree would give me the extra edge
I completed AVCE in Business and AS Accounting, but even with my qualifications and work experience as an Assistant Manager in a town centre pub, I was having difficulty finding a reasonably well paid job. I decided that I wanted to study business and went to an open day at the University of Derby. I actually made the decision to sign up on that day!
A huge saving
My main concern about going to University was debt. By studying the BA (Hons) Business Studies Fast Track degree I solved this problem though, as a two year degree means only two years' fees, saving £3070. Add living expenses to that and I've saved about £7000 altogether.
I'm glad I chose to study at Derby
The lecturers on the course are very helpful and approachable, and the balance of students as regard to age ranges, cultures and backgrounds is ideal.
The course is also very manageable. To be honest, as yet I haven't even noticed a heavier workload between myself and the three-year students. The main difference is the online modules over the summer. There are three in the first year and two in the second. With no set lectures every week it'll require an amount of self motivation, but I feel this will look good on my CV as well as teaching me to manage my time.
A fast track to success
I'd highly recommend anyone planning to study business to consider doing it fast-track. While it sounds like it's a lot more work, its not. You still get as much free time as everyone else so you don't miss out on the student life, but you learn extra motivation and time management skills that standard three year students possibly wouldn't. And did I mention you save a fortune?!
